New Technology for Water Treatment
The word "oulu" means flooding water in ancient Finnish. Lake Oulujärvi, Oulujoki River, and Oulu, the marketplace at the mouth of the river, probably got their names over 1,000 years ago according to the low-lying lake that flooded each spring.
International-level top research related to the recovery of industry's process waters and valuable components and the development and application of various purification and separation technologies is conducted in Oulu. Areas of strong know-how include physical-chemical water treatment technologies, such as surface and colloid chemistry, coagulation / flocculation processes, sorption processes and oxidation processes, and water purification material technologies, like sorbents, polymers, coagulants and flocculants, and membranes.
